Egypt Expands Natural Gas Production with New West Delta Development
Burullus Gas Company has successfully brought the Sparrow West-1 development well online as part of Phase 11 of the West Delta Deep Marine project, marking continued progress in Egypt’s strategy to maximize domestic natural gas production.
The development, managed by Rashid Petroleum Company (Rashpetco) with American oil giant Shell as a stakeholder, represents the second well brought online for this phase following the launch of Siena DE. The phase’s development plan aims to boost production capacity by up to 130 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Initial testing results have validated technical estimates, with Sparrow West-1 showing a targeted production rate of approximately 40 million cubic feet per day of natural gas. The well is expected to significantly improve production network efficiency and boost performance of adjacent wells.
In less than three weeks, the company has added 80 million cubic feet per day of natural gas through these two wells, demonstrating strong commitment to fast-track execution. A third well in this phase is targeted to come online by September, supporting the local supply network during peak summer consumption while reducing import reliance.
