Egypt and Nigeria Forge Strategic Petroleum Partnership to Expand African Energy Cooperation
The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have signed a groundbreaking agreement to expand cooperation and increase Egyptian petroleum companies’ involvement in Nigerian development projects.
The agreement leverages Egyptian companies’ extensive experience operating across Africa, particularly the Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) company’s successful track record in operating Nigeria’s refineries. EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim expressed confidence in Egyptian expertise supporting Nigerian expansions across all project phases, from design to maintenance.
Key Egyptian companies involved include the Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries Company (ENPPI), Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET), EPROM, and Sonker. The partnership will focus on training technical staff, transferring expertise, operating oil refineries, and establishing natural gas fueling stations while converting vehicles to run on natural gas.
NNPC Executive Vice President for Downstream Mumuni Dagazau highlighted ongoing Egyptian work at the Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Warri refineries, emphasizing opportunities to leverage Egyptian expertise in gas infrastructure development.
