Egypt and AMEA Power Partner on Revolutionary Energy Storage Initiative

Egypt has partnered with renewable energy company AMEA Power to deploy two cutting-edge battery-based energy storage facilities designed to revolutionize the country’s grid stability and renewable energy integration capabilities.

The ambitious project encompasses two separate energy storage stations with a combined capacity of 1,500 MWh, strategically located in Aswan and Red Sea Governorates. These facilities will connect directly to Egypt’s unified electricity grid, providing crucial energy balancing during peak demand periods while enabling greater renewable energy penetration.

Key regional projects supporting this initiative include the massive 1,000 MW Abydos 2 solar power plant in Aswan, which will be paired with a 600 MWh lithium-ion battery storage facility, and the 500 MW Amont 2 wind power plant in the Ras Shukeir area.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat highlighted that battery-based energy storage systems are essential for maintaining grid stability and ensuring continuous power supply as renewable energy adoption accelerates across the country.
