Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has conducted field visits to major refineries in Suez governorate to review progress on projects aimed at increasing production of high-value petroleum products. The visits focused on significant infrastructure developments at Suez Oil Processing Company and Nasr Petroleum Company facilities.

At SOPC, the minister reviewed the Coking and Diesel Production Complex, designed to process 1.75 million tons per year of diesel into high-value petroleum products. The project, executed by Engineering for the Petroleum & Process Industries and Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Co., has reached 60% completion and aims to reduce imports while meeting local consumption needs.

The company has also implemented 73% of a new industrial wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 48,000 cubic meters per day to protect the marine environment in the Gulf of Suez.

At NPC, the minister examined the new Vapor Recovery Unit, which will add 340,000 tons per year of liquefied petroleum gas and other high-value products through EGP 1.1 billion in investments. The unit has already begun trial operations. The company has also increased capacity of its condensate distillation project by 1.2 million tons per year of high-value products.

Environmental and safety projects include a seawater desalination unit with 6,000 cubic meters per day capacity, an industrial wastewater treatment project with 700 cubic meters per hour capacity, and construction of a 1.2 megawatt solar power plant.
