Egypt Advances Natural Gas Production with New Offshore Platform Installation
Petroleum Marine Services has successfully completed the installation of the West El Burullus offshore platform, marking a significant milestone in Egypt’s natural gas expansion efforts in the Nile Delta region. The project, operated by West El Burullus Petroleum Company, represents a key component of Egypt’s strategy to secure energy sources and maximize natural gas field exploitation.
The complex Installation process Involved placing a 345-ton jacket followed by a 431-ton deck using advanced lifting equipment aboard the PMS 12 marine unit. The next phase will include installing a 14-inch, 32-kilometer subsea pipeline connecting to the West Delta Deep Marine gas reception plant near Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast.
Plans also include the installation of a second offshore platform called Payprus, forming part of the expansion strategy for natural gas production in the WEB concession area. When the project was sanctioned in January 2023, it was projected to produce a plateau rate of 150 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, with estimated proven reserves of 240 billion cubic feet of gas equivalent.
