Dutch Maritime Giant KOTUG Expands West African LNG Operations with New Fleet

Dutch maritime company KOTUG International has significantly expanded its operational capacity in West Africa with the addition of five new escort tugs, specifically designed to support the region’s growing liquefied natural gas industry. The vessels, constructed by Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar, will play crucial roles in major regional energy projects.

The new tugs will provide essential support services for BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, a significant development spanning between Mauritania and Senegal, as well as Eni’s Congo LNG project in the Republic of Congo. Each vessel features powerful engines, advanced thrusters, comprehensive firefighting systems, and specialized towing equipment designed to handle challenging offshore conditions.

“This milestone reflects more than the delivery of five vessels; it reflects the future of maritime excellence,” said Ard-Jan Kooren, President and CEO of KOTUG. The collaboration with Uzmar has produced state-of-the-art tugboats while establishing the foundation for continued growth in West Africa’s expanding LNG sector.

The fleet expansion strengthens KOTUG’s position as a key service provider in the region and ensures that energy transport from West Africa operates with enhanced safety and reliability standards.
