Drilling Operations Set to Resume at Seme Field Offshore Benin

Akrare Petroleum Benin SA, a subsidiary of Lime Petroleum Holding, has announced comprehensive plans for the redevelopment of the Seme Field in Block 1 offshore Benin, marking a significant step forward for the West African nation’s oil sector.

The Borr Gerd jack-up rig operated by Borr Drilling is scheduled to arrive this month, with drilling operations set to commence in early July. The ambitious 100-day program will involve drilling three well-bores, beginning with an appraisal well designed to gather new data on deeper reservoir units.

Following the appraisal well, two horizontal production wells will be drilled and completed in the H6 reservoir, where subsurface analysis indicates significant remaining reserves despite previous production activities. The company aims to complete all drilling operations by October 2025.

A Mobile Offshore Production Unit will arrive in October, complemented by a Floating Storage & Offloading unit scheduled for mid-September delivery. Once the MOPU is connected to the newly-drilled wells, production is expected to begin in October 2025 at approximately 16,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Seme Field redevelopment program follows a phased approach, starting with production restoration while conducting extensive data collection for optimization. The company has completed reprocessing of 2007 3D seismic data to support operations. Phase 2 development will evaluate possibilities in deeper H7 and H8 reservoirs, along with additional development drilling in the H6 reservoir.

Lime Petroleum operates as a subsidiary of Singapore-based Rex International Holding, bringing international expertise to Benin’s emerging oil sector.
