Dangote Refinery Commits to Sustained LPG Production and Price Reduction

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its commitment to maintaining initiatives that promote clean cooking fuel availability while ensuring Liquified Petroleum Gas remains affordable for Nigerian consumers.

Since commissioning over a year ago, Dangote Refinery has transformed Nigeria into a net exporter of refined fuels, supplying markets as distant as the United States. The facility’s production of key by-products including polypropylene, LPG, and naphtha is catalysing growth across manufacturing, aviation, and agro-processing sectors.

The company’s domestic LPG supply has contributed to noticeable drops in cooking gas prices, promoting cleaner household energy use and reducing dependency on firewood and kerosene. With over 570,000 direct and indirect jobs created through road, power, and water infrastructure projects, the refinery has become a center for skills development and technology transfer.

Dangote Group has dismissed recent allegations from the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), calling claims of anti-labour practices and monopolistic behavior “entirely unfounded.” The company defended its deployment of over 4,000 CNG-powered trucks as supporting national energy transition goals rather than displacing jobs.

The refinery emphasized its compliance with Nigeria’s deregulated oil sector regulations and highlighted its role in stabilizing fuel availability while driving down costs. Diesel prices have dropped over 30% in the past year, with petrol prices now reportedly lower than in oil-rich nations like Saudi Arabia.
