Dana Gas Accelerates Egyptian Gas Output With Begonia-2 Drilling Campaign
United Arab Emirates-based Dana Gas is strengthening its operations in Egypt by fast-tracking the development of Begonia-2, a strategically important gas well located in the Nile Delta. Operated by El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO), a joint venture between Dana Gas and the Egyptian government, the well is part of an 11-well campaign intended to significantly boost domestic gas supply.
The Begonia-2 well targets the Abu Madi formation, a geologically rich area within the Miocene reservoir. Initial resource estimates suggest the potential to extract up to nine billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas. Once fully tied in, the development program could produce 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of gas and around 2,000 barrels per day of condensates.
This project supports Egypt’s ambition to become a regional gas powerhouse by increasing supply reliability, reducing imports, and building export-ready capacity through LNG terminals. It also reinforces Egypt’s appeal to private investors looking for proven reserves and a strong regulatory framework.
