Côte d’Ivoire Announces Ambitious Plan to Triple Oil Output by 2030
Côte d’Ivoire has unveiled an ambitious master plan to triple crude oil production and double natural gas output by 2030, positioning the country among Africa’s top five oil producers under a comprehensive strategy extending to 2050.
Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly announced the targets during the inauguration of the new PETROCI oil dock in Abidjan. The government aims for daily crude oil output of 200,000 tonnes and 600 million cubic feet of natural gas by 2030, with projections reaching 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day and over one billion cubic feet of natural gas daily by 2035.
The master plan requires substantial investment, with the government estimating needs of $730 million for port infrastructure, $5.2 billion for transport, and $10.4 billion for storage and processing by 2030. These investments will primarily come from the private sector, with notable public sector support.
Recent oil discoveries have significantly boosted Côte d’Ivoire’s production potential, including the Baleine field in 2021 and Calao in 2024. The country now estimates reserves at six billion barrels of crude oil, reinforcing its energy ambitions for the coming decades.
Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé endorsed the strategic plan, assuring national and international investors of strict adherence to global standards in quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
