Congo Sets Ambitious Oil Production Target of 500,000 BPD by 2030
The Republic of Congo has unveiled ambitious plans to nearly double its national oil production to 500,000 barrels per day by 2030, responding to growing domestic energy demand and economic development objectives.
Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua reported encouraging production statistics, with cumulative oil output from January through July reaching 56,945,552 barrels. This translates to an average of 268,000 barrels per day over 212 days, representing a solid 5.2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Major operators are contributing significantly to the production growth trajectory. TotalEnergies added four new oil fields during the period, producing approximately 900,000 barrels. Meanwhile, Perenco contributed around 60,000 barrels and has established an ambitious target of reaching 200,000 bpd by 2030.
The production expansion initiative reflects Congo’s strategic commitment to developing its oil sector capabilities while increasing domestic energy supply security. The targets align with broader economic growth objectives and energy infrastructure development plans.
Congo’s oil sector development occurs alongside major LNG projects, including the operational FLNG Tango and the soon-to-be-deployed FLNG Nguya, which together will provide 3 million tons per annum of liquefied natural gas capacity.
