BW Energy Contracts Deepsea Mira for Namibian Gas Appraisal Project
Oil and gas firm BW Energy and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia have contracted Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Mira semi-submersible rig for an upcoming appraisal well project offshore Namibia.
The rig will provide drilling services for the Kharas appraisal well on the Kudu license in the Orange Basin, scheduled to commence in the second half of 2025. The project is part of a $40 million contract awarded to rig operator Northern Ocean in early July, covering multiple wells offshore Namibia.
BW Energy plans to drill another well in early 2026 to expand its resource portfolio and operational footprint in Namibia. The company also intends to conduct a seismic survey to assess onshore basin potential and drill two exploration wells in the Kavango Rift Basin as part of a $6.4 million campaign announced in 2024.
