bp Plans Mediterranean Expansion with Five-Well Egypt Campaign
bp has signed a memorandum of understanding with Egyptian officials for a five-well drilling program in the Mediterranean Sea, targeting water depths from 300 to 1,500 meters. The campaign aims to accelerate natural gas production from the West Nile Delta using existing infrastructure, with drilling operations scheduled to begin in 2026.
The agreement follows bp’s successful exploration momentum, including recent discoveries at the Fayoum-5 and El King-2 wells within the West Nile Delta development. Executive Vice President William Lin highlighted the company’s commitment to applying technological expertise to bring new gas resources online quickly for local market needs.
bp plans to increase Egyptian production to 2.3-2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030, with capacity for further expansion through 2035. The partnership represents over six decades of collaboration between bp and Egypt.
