Angola’s Etu Energias Launches Multi-Well Drilling Campaign in Congo Basin

Angola’s largest homegrown independent energy company, Etu Energias, has commenced a comprehensive drilling campaign on its Block 2/05 in the shallow offshore Congo Basin, with the arrival of the Chinese-owned jack-up rig SMS ESSA Probe.

The ambitious program includes drilling at least three development wells, probing one exploration location, and conducting five workovers in existing wells. The campaign aligns with minimum commitments assumed by Etu Energias and partners, receiving approval from Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency as an essential component of the company’s growth strategy.

Etu Energias operates Block 2/05 with a 30% interest, with the asset currently producing around 14,000 barrels of oil per day. The company’s partners include fellow Angolan independents Falcon Oil, Prodoil, Kotoil, and Poliedro, who collectively hold the remaining 70%.

The SMS ESSA Probe, manufactured in 2020 at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyards, is equipped to operate in water depths of up to 30 meters and brings high-performance technical capabilities to the operation.
