Angola’s Cuito Solar Plant Set to Power Provincial Grid in July
The Cuito photovoltaic power plant in Angola’s Bié Province is preparing to begin electricity production in July following completion of final technical tests. The 14.6-megawatt solar facility represents a major advancement in the province’s renewable energy infrastructure and grid connectivity efforts.
Provincial Governor Celeste Adolfo confirmed that the plant’s official delivery to the public is expected next month, marking significant progress in improving energy access through clean sources. The facility is now complete and undergoing final technical preparations before becoming operational.
In related energy developments, the Ministry of Energy and Water has completed the transmission line connecting Catabola and Camacupa municipalities. Technical tests are currently underway at the electrical substation in Cuito, which will distribute energy from the Lauca Hydroelectric Dam to fully integrate both areas into Angola’s national electricity grid.
Governor Adolfo announced preparations to extend the electricity network from Cuito to the municipalities of Cunhinga, Andulo, and Nharea. Additional photovoltaic power plants in Cuemba and Chitembo are scheduled for construction later this year, pending completion of necessary demining operations at the project sites.
