Angola’s Block 1/14 Set to Deliver First Gas Production This Year

Angola’s national oil and gas concessionaire has announced that first gas from offshore Block 1/14 is expected to begin production in 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country’s offshore gas sector. The announcement was made by Paulino Jerónimo, President of the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG).

Gas was initially discovered in the Gajajeira-01 exploration well in July 2025, with preliminary assessments indicating volumes exceeding 1 trillion cubic feet. The substantial gas reserves represent a major boost to Angola’s energy portfolio and industrial growth objectives.

The block is operated by Azule Energy with a 35% stake, working in partnership with Equinor holding 30%, Sonangol with 25%, and ACREP maintaining 10%. “We anticipate first gas from the block this year and are working closely with our partners to develop the associated gas resources,” Jerónimo confirmed.

The development contributes to Angola’s broader strategy of expanding its gas production capabilities and positioning itself as a regional energy hub, potentially transforming the country’s energy landscape and economic prospects.
