Egypt’s Eastern Desert Delivers: PetroNefertiti’s Lorcan-6 Well Tests at 1,500 Barrels of Oil a Day Plus Gas

PetroNefertiti has hit new oil- and gas-bearing reservoirs in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, with the Lorcan-6 exploration well flowing at encouraging rates during production testing, according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum on Oct. 30.

Tests at the well, in the North Geisum concession near Gebel El Zeit, indicated output of 1,500 barrels per day of crude oil and 8 million standard cubic feet per day of associated gas. The well will be connected to production once testing and the necessary technical procedures are complete.

PetroNefertiti is a subsidiary of the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE), and exploration in its concession is backed by investment from Dana Petroleum and the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC). The company is continuing to update geological data and maps and to analyse test results, looking for opportunities to drill more wells and make the most of the area’s hydrocarbon potential.

Lorcan-6 is one of 101 exploration wells the ministry planned for 2026 under a $1.3 billion programme, five of them earmarked for the Eastern Desert. Egypt is targeting 750,000 barrels per day of crude and condensate by 2030, a 42% leap from the 527,000 barrels per day it produced in September 2026, according to recent statements from the ministry.
