Egypt Hands Oil and Gas Bidders More Time: Deadline for 14 Exploration Blocks Pushed to December 14
Egypt has given explorers extra time to prepare their bids. The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has extended the deadline for its 2026 international licensing round after requests from interested companies, the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) said on Nov. 1.
Bids are now due by noon Cairo time on Dec. 14. The extension applies to EGPC’s round, which covers six blocks. A separate round run by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), covering eight blocks, has also been extended to Dec. 14.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources launched the two rounds on Aug. 11, offering 14 oil and natural gas exploration blocks to Egyptian and international companies as part of efforts to attract investment and boost domestic production.
The rounds sit within a wider push to raise output. Egypt is targeting 750,000 barrels per day of crude and condensate by 2030, up from the 527,000 barrels per day it produced in September 2026, and the ministry planned 101 exploration wells for 2026 under a $1.3 billion programme.
