Seismic results from Angola’s onshore KON-16 block are expected shortly, giving partners Corcel and Sintana Energy greater clarity on the size and structure of key exploration prospects ahead of a planned mid-2027 drilling campaign.
The 2025/26 seismic campaign successfully identified target structures, with processing of the newly acquired data now under way to refine drill targets on one of Angola’s most closely watched onshore exploration projects. “We’re very confident in our ability to actually have the first significant commercial discovery onshore in Angola, and that will be in the pre-salt Kwanza Basin,” Corcel Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer Geraldine Geraldo said.
KON-16 targets geological structures analogous to the offshore Cameia discovery and could unlock more than 300 million barrels of oil. Sintana Energy partnered with Corcel, the block’s operator, in 2025 through a deal covering a 5% indirect interest, marking Sintana’s entry into the Angolan market, subject to regulatory approval. “Our participation in KON 16 is an excellent expression of our strategy — getting involved relatively early together with Corcel before all of the seismic acquisition was complete,” said Sintana Energy CEO Robert Bose.
