Roc Oil Strikes Commercial Crude in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, Extending a Century-Old Oil Province

Roc Oil has confirmed a commercial oil discovery at the East Yidma-1 exploration well in Egypt’s offshore Gulf of Suez, extending the known productive limits of an established field and reinforcing the region’s continued importance to Egypt’s energy sector.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,150 metres and encountered 34 metres of net oil pay across the Matulla and Nubia formations, with average porosity measured at 18% in the Matulla Formation and 16% in the Nubia Formation. Roc Oil said the results matched pre-drill expectations and sharpened its understanding of the field’s geological structure and productive potential.

Roc Oil Executive Chairman Richard Metcalfe said the discovery demonstrates the company’s ability to identify and advance exploration opportunities in the Gulf of Suez, with further evaluation now under way to assess the potential for future development.
