Egypt and Saipem Advance West Delta Deep Marine Phase 12 Gas Development
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Alessandro Puliti, CEO of Saipem, during the Baker Hughes Annual Meeting 2026 in Florence, Italy, to discuss opportunities to expand the Italian company’s activities in Egypt. The Minister praised the strategic partnership with Saipem, commending its long-standing track record in Egypt, particularly in the development of Zohr and Burullus fields.
The two sides reviewed preparations for the West Delta Deep Marine Phase 12 gas development and production project, as well as the company’s plans to upgrade and modernize its fleet of rigs and equipment operating in Egypt to support intensified exploration activities.
The CEO of Saipem expressed the company’s pride in its partnership with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, asserting Saipem’s commitment to providing the latest sustainable engineering technologies and digital transformation solutions to support Egypt’s emission reduction goals. He also praised the attractive investment climate provided by the Ministry for international companies.
Saipem, the Italian engineering, procurement and construction company, has an established presence in Egypt’s energy sector through major offshore and onshore projects. It played a central role in the development of the Zohr gas field, the largest natural gas discovery in the Mediterranean, leading engineering, procurement, construction and installation works from initial design to subsea pipeline installation.
