Egyptian and Jordanian Ministers Strengthen Natural Gas Partnership

During his official visit to Amman, Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met with Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh to discuss enhanced cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The ministers emphasized building upon existing natural gas collaboration, utilizing established infrastructure including the gas network connecting both countries and the liquefied natural gas import system.

The partnership gained significant momentum in July when both ministers witnessed the commissioning of the floating storage and regasification unit Energos Force at the Port of Aqaba. This facility receives imported LNG shipments, regasifies them, and pumps the gas into the Arab Gas Pipeline connecting to Egypt, securing energy supply and providing emergency response capabilities.

During the visit, the ministers celebrated a leadership transition in the Jordanian Egyptian FAJR Company for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply, with Chairman Fouad Rashad handing over responsibilities to new CEO and General Manager Yasser Salah Eldin.

The FAJR Company, operational since December 2003, was established to transport and export natural gas, implementing and operating the Arab Gas Pipeline’s second phase within Jordan up to the Jordanian-Syrian border under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer scheme for 30 years, with a possible 10-year extension.
