Algeria Opens Major Gas Treatment Center as Production Capacity Expands

Algeria has inaugurated the Ain Tsila gas treatment center in Illizi province, representing a significant addition to the country’s natural gas processing capabilities. Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab and Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi officially commissioned the facility on August 20, marking completion of a major infrastructure project.

The new treatment center features two production lines with combined processing capacity of 12 million cubic meters of gas daily, 1,800 tonnes of condensates per day, and 1,600 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas daily. The facility incorporates a 125 MW power generation unit and 355 kilometers of associated pipeline infrastructure.

Complementing the gas treatment center, officials also inaugurated new worker accommodation facilities, including a 220-bed base in Ain Tsila and a 126-bed facility in Ain Amenas. The Ain Amenas facility provides comprehensive services including accommodation, dining, leisure spaces, and additional support services for pipeline transportation workers.

During their visit, the delegation reviewed operations at the Tin Fouyé Tabenkort production site, which produces 54,000 barrels of crude oil daily and 5.2 million cubic meters of associated gas, including 2.4 million cubic meters per day designated for export. The site encompasses 23 separation centers, four storage and shipping facilities, and an associated gas treatment plant. Officials also inaugurated the newly constructed Tin Fouyé Tabenkort aerodrome, built to modern standards to improve transportation conditions for workers, partners, and operators while supporting local development initiatives.
