Shearwater GeoServices Secures Ghana’s Inaugural Deepwater Seismic Survey Contract
Norwegian marine seismic specialist Shearwater GeoServices has landed a significant contract to conduct Ghana’s first deepwater ocean bottom node seismic survey, marking a historic milestone for the West African nation’s offshore exploration sector.
The comprehensive survey will cover the prolific Jubilee and TEN fields operated by Tullow Oil and its partners across the West Cape Three Points and Deep Water Tano licenses. The two-month project is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2025. The contract follows Shearwater’s successful deployment of the SW Tasman vessel and Pearl node platform in consecutive projects across Côte d’Ivoire and Angola, maintaining continuous operations offshore West Africa since late 2024.
Tullow and its partners recently secured extensions enabling the Jubilee and TEN fields to remain in production until 2040. The Jubilee field, discovered in 2007, previously underwent a two-month 4D seismic survey performed by Shearwater.
The Ghana contract represents the latest achievement in Shearwater’s expanding West African portfolio, following the recent announcement of a two-month OBN seismic survey in Angola with ExxonMobil’s affiliate Esso Exploration Angola Block 15 Limited.
CEO Irene Waage Basili emphasized the company’s pioneering role, stating that these projects demonstrate “Shearwater’s role in pioneering new technology in new regions, delivering operational excellence and industry-leading survey efficiency and data quality.”
