Eni Advances Power Grid Modernization Project in Republic of Congo
Eni Congo has announced significant progress on a major project to refurbish and improve the high-voltage power transmission network linking Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. The strategic initiative aims to strengthen the long-term reliability and performance of the country’s energy infrastructure through maintenance of nine key substations and the overhead high-voltage power line.
Andrea Barberi, Managing Director of Eni Congo, highlighted that the project will enhance power distribution capacity, increase grid stability, and significantly improve access to electricity for both local communities and businesses. The initiative reaffirms the company’s commitment to ensuring stable, secure, and sustainable access to energy while placing energy security, industrial competitiveness, and local development at the core of its strategy.
The project supports the broader vision for energy development, complementing the performance of the Centrale Électrique du Congo (CEC), which currently supplies more than 70% of the country’s electricity through three gas turbines with a reliability rate exceeding 98%. Powered by domestic gas, CEC serves as a model of low-carbon, high-efficiency energy generation.
