Seplat Makes Historic First Domestic LPG Supply from Former ExxonMobil Assets

Seplat Energy has achieved a major milestone by completing the first domestic supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas from its operated Bonny River Terminal in Rivers State, Nigeria. The company loaded 12,600 metric tons of LPG in what it calls a “landmark supply” that marks a strategic shift from historical export-only operations.

This development represents a significant change from the previous ExxonMobil operations, which had always exported LPG from these facilities. Seplat completed the acquisition of ExxonMobil’s entire stakes in Oil Mining Leases 67, 68, 70, and 104 in offshore Nigeria in December 2024.

The move is part of Seplat’s strategic drive to deepen local energy supply and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported cooking gas. The company expects additional LPG production from its newly constructed gas plants: the 300 million standard cubic feet per day ANOH gas plant in Imo State and the 90 million standard cubic feet per day Sapele gas plant in Delta State, both expected to be fully operational in Q4 2025.

“Usage of gas and LPG is on the rise in Nigeria,” said Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy. “Reliable supply is critical in ensuring energy security in the country as well as reducing carbon emissions and other harmful air pollutants.”
