Egypt’s EGPC Achieves EGP 5.2 Billion Savings Through Comprehensive Energy Transition Program
The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has successfully launched 38 energy transition projects during fiscal year 2024/25, with 18 now fully operational and 20 in advanced execution stages. The ambitious program has generated approximately EGP 5.2 billion in annual financial savings while significantly advancing the country’s clean energy objectives.
The projects have added 30 megawatts of solar power capacity and reduced diesel consumption by approximately 68 million liters annually. Additionally, 4.5 billion cubic feet of flare gases were captured and converted into value-added petroleum products, contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by about 470,000 tons per year.
EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim emphasized the importance of integrating energy transition into core operational systems, moving beyond fragmented approaches to create sustainable returns and enhance sector competitiveness. The corporation is expanding into new renewable energy projects in the Western Desert and Alexandria using innovative financing mechanisms that avoid direct financial burden.
