Egypt Goes High-Tech With Nationwide Pipeline Network Upgrade

In a move to modernize its aging energy infrastructure, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has inked a strategic agreement with a consortium led by Siemens, DNV, and EnExpert Energy to digitize and secure Egypt’s extensive pipeline system. The agreement targets over 7,000 kilometers of pipelines, covering crude oil and petroleum product transport and storage across the country.

This three-phase digital transformation project will deploy cutting-edge solutions such as digital twins, real-time analytics, industrial automation systems, and risk-based inspection technologies. These upgrades aim to prevent pipeline failures, enhance maintenance scheduling, monitor pressure anomalies, and detect illegal activities like product siphoning.

By embracing digital technologies, Egypt is positioning itself as a competitive energy logistics hub in the Middle East and North Africa. It will also improve safety standards and operational transparency across the petroleum sector.

This initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader modernization program for the oil and gas sector, designed to attract investment, reduce product loss, and integrate data-driven decision-making into daily operations.
