Algeria Awards Massive $855 Million Gas Production Contract to Chinese Firm
Algeria’s national oil and gas company Sonatrach has awarded a substantial $855 million contract to China’s Jereh Group for developing facilities at the Rhourde Nouss gas field. The contract will see Jereh Oil & Gas Engineering build a natural gas booster station and upgrade transmission pipelines to improve production efficiency.
The Rhourde Nouss boosting project will centralize natural gas production from both the Rhourde Nouss and adjacent Gassi Touil gas fields. Sonatrach, Africa’s largest gas producing company, will pay $629.1 million and $226 million for different phases of the project construction.
Jereh Group has been expanding its overseas presence in recent years, winning contracts with major clients including Saudi Aramco, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. The company previously secured another Algerian contract in June 2021 for gas debottlenecking projects in the Bir Rebaa Nord and Rhourde Ouled Djemma fields.
