Anzana Electric Group Secures $760 Million Hydropower Deal to Power 30 Million People Across Three Nations

Anzana Electric Group has signed a groundbreaking tentative agreement with Ruzizi III Holding Power Co. Ltd. (RHPCL) to acquire up to 10 percent stake in a massive 206-megawatt hydroelectric project that will serve Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Rwanda.

The $760-million Ruzizi III Regional Hydropower Project represents a transformative infrastructure development planned for the Ruzizi River between DRC and Rwanda. The project is expected to power approximately 30 million people across the three neighboring countries, targeting a region where 54 percent of the population lives below the poverty line and electricity access averages just 24 percent.

The ambitious development will nearly double Burundi’s current electrical capacity, boost Rwanda’s power generation by 30 percent, and deliver critical baseload power to eastern DRC, advancing economic growth, regional integration, and energy security in one of Africa’s most underserved regions.

RHPCL, a special-purpose vehicle registered in Rwanda, serves as the private partner to project company Ruzizi III Energy Limited under a build-own-operate-transfer scheme. The companies have committed to negotiating a binding partnership agreement by September, outlining governance rights, investment commitments, and future collaboration trajectories.
