Egypt Awards Six Offshore and Onshore Blocks to International Energy Companies

Egypt’s EGAS has awarded six strategic blocks to international companies, marking a significant expansion of the country’s exploration activities across the Mediterranean, Nile delta, and North Sinai regions.

The awarded blocks will attract $245 million in investment and result in at least 13 new exploratory wells during the exploration period. A consortium of Chevron Egypt and Shell’s BG Group secured the North Samian offshore block and Northwest Atoll offshore block, with plans to drill two exploratory wells in each location.

Eni’s IEOC was awarded the North Ras El Tin offshore block and will drill three exploratory wells, while Cheiron Egypt will conduct similar operations in the East Alexandria offshore block. IPR will focus on the North Tanta onshore block with two exploratory wells, and Perenco will conduct 3D seismic surveys and drill one exploratory well in the El Fayrouz onshore block in North Sinai.
